Mercedes-Benz EQC spawns a younger cousin for China

The Mercedes-Benz EQC 400, which you can see in the video here, sells in Europe with a rather hefty price tag. Today, a lower spec called EQC 350 launches in China with revised looks and tech.

The compact luxury SUV no longer sports the AMG package, but the rest stays the same. This includes the 19-inch wheels of varying width, the LED lighting, the MBUX infotainment system with its 10.25-inch screen, and the same-sized digital dashboard. The powertrain is where the main difference is: like the EQC 400, the EQC 350 has two electric motors, but they only produce 286 PS (210 kW) in total instead of 408 PS (300 kW). The maximum torque remains unannounced for the 350 model, whereas the 400 has 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque.

As a consequence, the China-spec EQC does the standard sprint in 6.9 seconds instead of 5.1 s. Both max out at 180 km/h (112 mph).

The traction battery stays the same at 79.2 kilowatt-hours of capacity, granting the SUV up to 415 km (258 miles) of NEDC-rated range.

The Mercedes EQC 350 is being produced by the joint Daimler-BAIC enterprise in China known as Beijing Benz. Sales have already started, and the minimum price is 499,800 Chinese Yuan. To put things into perspective, the EQC 400 would be 579,800 CNY or more, or 622,800 CNY for the exclusive 1886 Edition.
