Old Defender gets stylish new aftermarket taillights

The classic Land Rover Defender makes for a solid off-roader, but it has a few well-known quirks – dim taillights being one of them. Glohh proposes a good-looking, if costly, solution.

There are two versions of the lights, called GL-2 and GL-2x. Each set consists of six pieces – two taillights plus a yellow indicator for each side. The indicators can be mounted in two available positions at the rear end. The “x” version is slightly darkened to look better against certain body colors, but that’s the only difference.

According to Glohh, the brake lights underwent extensive testing in Icelandic winter and should be good for long-term off-road use. Each unit is cushioned against impacts and vibration and sealed against dust and moisture to IP67+ standard, meaning you can wade rivers without a second thought.

The full set costs £489 in the UK, or £539 if you’d rather have the blacked-out GL-2x version. Both are compatible with all Defenders produced between 1990 and 2016 and don’t require any additional wiring or setting up to work – just remove the old lights and put the new ones on.

One thing to note is that there is still no GL-2 light design certified for the North American market, but the company says one is coming soon.
