Chevy El Camino gets reincarnated as L Camaro

A car enthusiast from Alabama wanted to drive a light pickup based on the fifth-gen Chevrolet Camaro chassis. He drew inspiration from the popular El Camino pickup from the 1960s and the Australian utes when he commissioned local firm Impatient Creations for the job.

Working with a 2010 Camaro SS, the tuner has chopped its rear end, lengthening the overhang and installing a custom bed where the trunk used to be. The taillights and the rear fenders had to be replaced as well. Rather than splurging on carbon or another exotic material, the owner preferred for the new panels to be made from metal and beaten into shape. The result may look a bit amateurish, but the sheer amount of work is certainly commendable.

A shelf replaced the rear seat row in the cabin. The car was allowed to keep its stock 6.2-liter LS3 V8 rated at 432 PS (426 hp / 318 kW), six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

Once complete, the L Camaro has visited a number of automotive shows and events where it garnered a lot of both praise and criticism. Many pointed out that it looked ill-proportioned and could use a longer wheelbase. Despite the critiques, the owner is seemingly happy with it, driving it on the streets of Alabama often and using it just as one is supposed to use a pickup truck.
