Renault teams up with Volvo on an electric van and truck

Flexis – a brand co-founded between Renault and Volvo with a focus on commercial EVs – has unveiled its production queue for the next year. It consists of a cargo van, an MPV and a bare chassis.

All three are based on the same skateboard platform and probably the same powertrain, too. They also benefit from a low floor level and a modular interior space that you can reorganize as needed.

Starting with the Flexis Step-In van, it features sliding front doors, a roll-up tailgate and a tall roof that Renault says should let taller drivers walk around the interior without bending down. The city-focused Cargo Van isn’t as tall, but comes in multiple length and height versions to choose from. It may also get a passenger/cargo combo version later on. Last but not least, the Panel Van is a panel truck with a single cab and mounting points for various add-ons.

Once fully charged, the Flexis vehicles will offer up to 450 km (280 miles) of range. Topping up the battery from 10 to 80 percent will take 20 minutes at most. All production will take place at a Renault factory in Europe. As for the sales model, the company plans to sell directly to logistics businesses, some of which have reportedly already expressed their interest in Flexis. Having said that, a certain number of vehicles will be available through Renault dealerships.
