Avatr accelerates EV expansion

Avatr, the car brand co-founded in China between Changan, Huawei and CATL, hopes that it can ramp up its export volumes in the near future.

Right now, Avatr cars are available in 12 countries around the globe. Each market gets its own, specialized model fully compliant with the regional laws and trimmed to suit the local customers’ tastes, Avatr claims. Further design tweaks are made to improve the experience based on local climate and road conditions.

This isn’t unique to the Avatr brand, though. Since late 2024, China has been banning all exports of unmodified “Chinese domestic market” (CDM) vehicles. When shipped abroad without export-specific adjustments, these vehicles are automatically considered gray imports. Owners may also encounter practical limitations when driving CDM cars outside of their intended market, so it’s generally advised to avoid them.
