Ford Explorer rigs up for off-roading in Tremor Edition

Ford has unveiled an optional Tremor package for its 2026 Explorer SUV lineup, making it slightly more capable on less-than-ideal terrain.

Tuned springs and shock absorbers in the suspension are being highlighted as the biggest upgrade. Aside from improving performance, they also raise the SUV an additional 25 mm (1 inch) above the ground, for a total clearance of 193 mm (7.54 inches). Ford briefly mentions some geometric optimizations, but we were unable to find any specific approach and departure angles.

As well, the new Explorer rides on special 18-inch wheels shod in Bridgestone Dueler tires. It has skid plates at both ends and recovery hooks for when things go wrong. The exterior makes do with the usual orange accents, while the cabin boasts orange contrast stitching and has Tremor lettering embroidered on the seat backs.

Engine specifications are unknown. In all likelihood, the Tremor package will be mainly installed on the 3.0-liter V6 version rated at 406 PS (400 hp / 299 kW) and 563 Nm (415 lb-ft) of torque. That’s what the current Explorer ST ships with. Then again, a 2.3-liter four-pot with 304 PS (300 hp / 299 kW) may also be an option. In both cases, we expect AWD with a Torsen differential to be standard.
