Car Tuning

This old Civic seems to be cosplaying every Mercedes at once

A 29-year-old Honda Civic stylized to look like a Mercedes supercar of sorts is up for grabs in Indonesia for U.S. $4,800 or so. The owner says he paid around half as much for the tuning.

For whatever reason, the car was extensively overhauled with a new roofline, new pillars and other structural modifications. Two large and more modern-looking frameless doors replaced the original four, and everything was done to ensure that the result looked like a Mercedes.

Granted, we have no idea what particular model provided the inspiration, because it looks like a bit of everything. The headlights are early M-Class, the grille reminds us a bit of the Mercedes-McLaren SLR, and some of the body outlines give off faint CLK vibes. In other words, it’s a parody more than it is a replica, a true Frankencar.

Unsurprisingly, the interior stays stock except for a tri-point star badge on the steering wheel. The powertrain is stock 1996 Civic, and the drive is on the front axle, in stark contrast to any real Mercedes coupe.
