Chinese Kia KX1 unveiled

Several photos showing the exterior of KX1, Kia’s mini-SUV for the Chinese market, have recently been uploaded online. The vehicle will premiere in August.

The KX1 is essentially a localized KIA Stonic, which is sold in South Korea and Europe. Its prototype version debuted at the Beijing Automotive Exhibition this spring, and now we finally have a look at the production vehicle.

Compared to the European Stonic, the Chinese Kia KX1 comes with new side mirrors, front bumper and rear lights. Its top-spec variant is also different, featuring boomerang-shaped headlights in place of round ones and two exhaust pipes instead of one. No Europe-sold models boast design features like this.

At 4,100 mm / 13.45 ft. long, 1,735 mm / 5.7 ft. wide and 1,503 mm / 4.93 ft. tall, the new Kia KX1 is smaller than the Kia Stonic in all respects. Its wheelbase amounts to 2,570 mm / 8.43 ft.

The car will ship with a naturally-aspirated 1.4-liter engine capable of between 95 and 100 hp (71 – 75 kW), coupled with either manual or automatic transmission.

Prices haven’t been revealed so far, but the vehicle will likely become the cheapest member of the KIA SUV family.
