The production of Kia’s K9 executive saloon closely related to the Genesis G90 and otherwise known as the K900 is set to end by late 2026.
According to the manufacturer, dealerships in South Korea only managed to find 1,581 buyers for the sedan in 2025. The sales dropped even further to a dismal 734 units in January-June 2026. For a bit of perspective, Kia sold 13,931 K9 examples in Korea in 2012 when sedans were still relatively popular. With the market preference shifting towards SUVs, the executive car has gradually ended up on life support.
In the United States, Canada, Middle East and Latin America, Kia positioned the K9 as a more affordable alternative to the Genesis G90. It came with a simplified interior trim and less luxury options, but always retained access to the same selection of six- and eight-cylinder engines as the G90. The latest generation even gained an optional all-wheel drive system.
It currently doesn’t look like Kia has any kind of direct successor to the retiring K9.
