2028 Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Details Emerge

The 2028 Mercedes-AMG GT SUV is the first SUV developed in-house by AMG and the second vehicle to utilize the AMG.EA high-performance architecture. The top-tier GT63 model is expected to feature a three-motor powertrain delivering 1153 horsepower, with a claimed 0-60 mph acceleration in 2.4 seconds. The lineup will also include the GT55 and GT53 variants.

The GT55 and GT63 models will be equipped with a 128 kWh battery, a 22 percent increase over the 106 kWh battery found in the GT sedan. These models will use a trio of axial-flux motors, with two in the rear for propulsion and torque vectoring, and one at the front. The GT55 is expected to produce 805 peak horsepower and 1372 pound-feet of torque, while the GT63 will offer 1153 peak horsepower and 1475 pound-feet of torque.

A new GT53 model, unique to the SUV, will slot in as a more affordable option. It will feature two radial-flux permanent-magnet synchronous motors, one in the front and one in the rear, producing a combined 536 peak horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The GT53 SUV will also be lighter than its more powerful counterparts and will use a smaller battery pack.

Pricing for the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV range has not yet been announced.
