MG Pilot revealed with detailed specs

China-based automaker MG revealed its crossover SUV named Pilot (domestic name: Linghang) a month ago, but the technical specifications remained unannounced until the Auto China 2020 show recently concluded in Beijing.

The Pilot is essentially a redesigned version of the MG HS, a CUV that is 4,574 mm long, 1,876 mm wide and between 1,664 and 1,685 mm tall depending on the version. The Pilot has roughly the same dimensions, body outlines, rear clip and cabin. Its wheelbase is also equal to that of the HS model at 2,730 mm. The main reason for the model name change is that the HS stays in production, so the two will be available side-by-side in the coming years.

The “third-generation design philosophy” translates into new bumpers, radiator grille and LED headlights, as well as new taillight contents. The range-topping Trophy trim introduces 19-inch wheels and red brake calipers.

The front fascia stays unchanged. The center tunnel houses a grip for the passenger and a couple of cup holders. The digital dashboard and a multimedia screen with a quasi-hovering display are still there, as are all-around view cameras, the panoramic sunroof, and the adaptive cruise control.

The MG Pilot hits the showrooms with the same assortment of engines as the HS model, specifically a 1.5-liter turbo four-pot rated at 173 hp (129 kW) and its larger 2.0-liter counterpart worth 231 hp (172 kW). Both use seven-speed semi-auto transmission and AWD. The HS is additionally available with six-speed manual and six-speed semi-auto gearboxes, out of which only the latter supports AWD.

Prices will be revealed in mid-October. The MG HS currently starts from 109,800 Chinese Yuan.
