Meet the Kia Tasman, a mid-size pickup coming up in 2025

The Tasman is Kia’s first take on a pickup truck, and it shows.

Starting with the interior, the dash houses as many as three displays. There is a 12.3-inch digital dash, a same-sized infotainment display and a 5-inch HVAC screen. You can choose eco-friendly leatherette for the trim and go for a Harman-Kardon premium audio system, among other options. A storage box can be put under the rear seats, a folding table can be squeezed between the front seats, and the bed can be optioned with a power socket. Speaking of which, the bed has a rated volume of 1,173 liters (41.4 cubic feet) and a rated maximum load of 1,200 kilograms (2,645 lbs). The actual load is limited by your other trim choices, Kia warns.

The Single Cab truck is 5.4 meters (211 inches) long with 3.3 meters (129 inches) between the axles. It can wade water up to 800 mm (31 inches) high and rides on 18-inch wheels with adaptive shocks available at a premium. The front suspension is of a double-wishbone design, while the rear axle is a solid beam. Mud tires are available as well. Kia offers a choice between two cab types and a bare chassis with mounting points for various commercial equipment.

Depending on the region, the Tasman will go on sale with one out of two possible four-cylinder engines. The first one is a 2.5-liter petrol unit rated at 281 PS (277 hp / 207 kW) and 421 Nm (311 lb-ft) of torque. The other one is a 2.2-liter diesel capable of 210 PS (207 hp / 154 kW) and 441 Nm (325 lb-ft). Both come with an 8-speed AT, but the diesel will also get 6-speed MT in certain countries.

The petrol truck is slightly faster from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) with 8.5 seconds as opposed to the diesel’s 10.4. All-wheel drive is available, but you will have to order a high-end trim to get it. These versions of the Tasman will get differential locks and multiple drive presets for challenging terrain types.

Once it goes on sale in South Korea in early 2025, the Kia Tasman will start shipping overseas to Australia, Africa and Middle East. All pricing is to be announced.
