Skoda Kylaq bows in India

Skoda’s Kylaq crossover is its tiniest car in this class on the Indian domestic market. It is set to go on sale in early 2025 priced from 789,000 Rupees.

The Kylaq is based on a dedicated platform known as the MQB-A0 IN, designed specifically for India. It is sized 3,995 mm (156 in) long, 1,783 mm (69.7 in) wide and 1,619 mm (63.3 in) tall. The ground clearance amounts to 189 mm (7.4 inches), and the wheelbase spans 2,566 mm (100.3 inches). The trunk fits 446 liters of luggage but can expand to 1,265 liters, allowing Skoda to advertise it as best-in-class.

On the exterior side of things, the car follows the automaker’s Modern Solid design language. It features a modern infotainment system connected to a pair of displays 8 and 10.1 inches large, heated and ventilated seats, a sunroof and a bi-color leatherette trim.

The base trim level already includes as many as 25 passive and active safety assists. Higher trims expand the list further to 35 items. Do note that Skoda includes some odd things in the “safety aid” list, such as rain and snow sensors, tire pressure sensors, and adaptive headlights. Most automakers don’t consider these safety features first and foremost.

Power-wise, the Kylaq relies on a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine rated at 115 PS (113 hp / 86 kW) and 178 Nm (131 lb-ft) of torque. The drive stays on the front axle without any other options, but you can choose between six-speed manual and equivalent automatic for the transmission. In both cases, the petite CUV will need 10.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and won’t go any faster than 188 km/h (116 mph).

It is still unknown whether Skoda plans to offer the Kylaq outside of India later on.
