EV makers to save ICE car companies from fines, again

The ever-stricter emission laws in Europe are forcing the local car companies to buy so-called emission quotas from EV vendors to avoid fines reaching as high as €15,000,000,000.

Stellantis, Ford, Mazda, Subaru and Toyota are expected to pay Tesla around €1,000,000,000 in total so that the EU continues to consider their contribution to the overall carbon footprint low. In turn, Mercedes-Benz will pay to Volvo and Polestar to achieve the same status.

Things look more complicated for Honda, BMW, Hyundai, JLR, Kia, Renault and Volkswagen. All these companies admit that the emission issue is serious, but haven’t decided yet who to turn to for the “carbon credits”. Any companies that fail to work out a solution in time will be penalized.
