Porsche 917K fails to sell despite $25M top bid

Many of us expected Jerry Seinfeld’s Porsche 917K to set an all-time high for the brand when someone offered 25 million USD for it, but the American comedian refused to part with it.

Seinfeld, who has held onto the car since 2001, didn’t explain why he turned down what could become the biggest transaction in the history of Porsche. In all likelihood, he had hoped to get still more for it than that. There was no price guidance posted.

The 917K seen here was produced in 1969 and never participated in any acing events. It was acquired by Steve McQueen’s film studio, Solar Production, and proceeded to star in 1971 Le Mans. McQueen himself drove it on the filming set. The car was stored away once the filming was complete and never used, so it is still in pristine condition.
