BMW iX gets refreshed for 2025

BMW has slightly updated its all-electric iX SUV, improving both its appearances and tech.

The old xDrive40 spec rated at 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW) is no longer available. If you wanted that one, consider the new iX xDrive45 with 408 PS (402 hp / 300 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal. That’s a nice improvement over the old version’s 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque.

Useful battery size has also been significantly improved – from 71 all the way to 94.8 kilowatt-hours. As a result, the SUV can cover 602 kilometers (374 miles) on a single charge instead of 425 km (264 miles). It also attains an acceleration of 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds – a full second faster than before. The top speed remains capped at 200 km/h (124 mph).

The old xDrive50 spec remains available, but BMW now sells it under the name “xDrive60”. It’s a bit odd, because the gains are marginal. The combined power of two electric motors now comes to 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) instead of 523 PS (517 hp / 390 kW), but the torque stays the same at 765 Nm (564 lb-ft). The usable battery capacity goes up from 105 to 109.1 kWh, so you can now go on for 701 km (435 miles) on a charge instead of 391 miles. The sprint time stays at 4.6 seconds.

What used to be known as the M60 xDrive is now being offered as the M70 xDrive. It commands 659 PS (650 hp / 485 kW) instead of the old version’s 619 PS (611 hp / 455 kW). The torque still peaks at 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft), and that’s only with Launch Control in Sport Mode. The battery delivers 108.9 kilowatt-hours for 600 km (373 miles) of range. The new flagship of the lineup needs 3.8 seconds to reach highway speeds and can be taken all the way to 250 km/h (155 mph).
