Nissan Unveils Heavily Modified Frontier Ronin Concept

Nissan has introduced the Ronin, a heavily modified version of its Frontier mid-size pickup, as a SEMA concept for the 2026 show. The concept aims to create an "unstoppable off-road truck" by pushing the limits of the Frontier platform's performance in both powertrain and off-road capabilities.

The Ronin concept retains the Frontier's 3.8-liter V-6 engine but incorporates significant changes. It features a rear-mounted twin-turbo system from the R35 GT-R, custom air intakes, and a custom front-mounted intercooler system. Exhaust gases are routed through a NISMO Off Road exhaust with three-inch cutouts. Nissan has not disclosed the exact power output, but it is expected to be substantially higher than the stock Frontier's 310 horsepower.

For off-road performance, the Ronin utilizes a modified version of the Titan’s rear suspension and rear axle. The truck is equipped with a Bilstein Black Hawk suspension package, featuring four-way adjustable coil-overs and internal hydraulic bump stops. Custom CJD Racing long-travel components provide four inches of lift, 12 additional inches of width, and 14 inches of suspension travel. The concept rides on prototype NISMO Ascend beadlock wheels and Yokohama Geolandar X-AT tires, suggesting it is designed as a desert runner.
