The latest Porsche 911 GT3 (992) has come to replace the 911 GT3 RS (991), and it will remain the ultimate 911 on the lineup until an eventual 992 GT3 RS arrives. But the question is, how do the two compare?
This is what Mat Watson wanted to find out. He procured a new 911 GT3 and a previous-gen GT3 RS for a decisive drag race. Both cars have a four-liter flat-six engine, a seven-speed PDK, and RWD.
The older is the more powerful of the two at 520 PS (513 hp / 382 kW) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque. The new GT3 commands marginally less power at 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW), while the torque stays the same. It is also a touch heavier, but only if one insists that 5 kilos (11 lbs) is somehow a big deal.
The important point to note is that the old-gen RS concludes its standard 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 3.2 seconds, while the new GT3 needs two-tenths of a second longer than that.
Only a drag race could put all the dots over the i’s, and one hell of a race it was! Watch the video to learn which 911 came out on top.
