After an unfortunate decision to replace the supercharged V8 in the Ram 1500 truck lineup with an inferior V6, the company admitted that it took a sales hit and went on to correct its mistakes. The new Ram 1500 SRT TRX doesn’t only bring eight cylinders back in the game – it is superior to the Mk1 in pretty much every aspect.
Co-designed with the revived SRT badge, the pickup uses the same 6.2-liter block as its predecessor but extracts 788 PS (777 hp / 580 kW) from it along with 923 Nm (681 lb-ft) of torque. A reworked eight-speed automatic transmission with a couple of inter-wheel differentials and six dedicated off-road presets carries the torque to the four wheels.
Equipped like this, the new TRX has no trouble hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.5 seconds and climbing to 190 km/h (118 mph) in a straight line. It benefits from Bilstein suspension upgrades, 300 mm (11.7 inches) of ground clearance and new 18-inch wheels shod in 35-inch off-road tires.
Prices for this new edition start from just under $100,000. Buyers automatically get the top trim, but those looking for some extra bling may consider an exterior styling package called Bloodshot Night Edition.
