Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV gets refreshed for 2025

Mitsubishi has facelifted the PHEV (plug-in hybrid) version of its Outlander SUV. Sales in Japan will begin later this fall, while customers in 20 EU countries will have to wait until the next spring.

On the exterior side of things, the hybrid crossover gets a new grille pattern, active grille louvers for improved drag performance, and new 20-inch wheels. The light signatures all around have been updated and a new grey color has been added to the list of available body finishes.

For the interior, buyers can now go for a new semi-aniline leather trim. The top spec drops Bose audio for a 12-channel Yamaha sound system. The 9.0-inch infotainment display is gone, too, replaced with a superior 12.3-inch panel borrowed from the technically related Nissan X-Trail.

Depending on the market, the new Outlander PHEV churns out between 251 and 306 PS (248–302 hp; 185–225 kW). The biggest upgrade in the powertrain department is the battery, which now holds 22.7 kWh of power instead of 20. Further power optimizations allow the truck to cover 86 km (53 miles) in all-electric mode, a solid improvement over the former 60 km (37 miles). The company also briefly mentions enhanced fuel economy thanks to fewer engine starts, but there are no specifics yet.

The non-electric version of the Mitsubishi Outlander will be getting the same overall updates in 2025.
