Porsche 911 gets a lightweight manual option

The new Porsche 911 (992.2) Carrera “T” is being advertised as a driver-oriented sports car with its lower curb weight and manual gearbox. For the first time on record, this version will go on sale in convertible body style. Preorders are already running.

Compared to the standard Carrera model, the T gets rid of some noise proofing, ditches its rear bench seat and uses thinner glass all around. Somewhat surprisingly, it only weighs 40 kilos (88 pounds) less as a result.

The engine stays stock, implying a 3.0-liter flat-six mill rated at 394 PS (388 hp / 290 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. The abovementioned six-speed manual transmission comes to replace the standard seven-speed PDK. The coupe sprints 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.5 seconds, while the convertible needs 0.2 seconds more to reach the same acceleration. The non-T Carrera concludes the sprint in 3.9 seconds.

Drivers can look forward to numerous tweaks and features designed to maximize driving enjoyment. Porsche mentions rear-wheel steering, torque vectoring, and adaptive suspension with a 10mm (0.4-inch) reduction in ride height.

The exterior stays recognizable with lots of fine details subtly tweaked to make the Carrera T stand out from the crowd, as well as new color options. The interior gets an exclusive trim with sport seats and a gear lever finished with walnut wood.
