1st Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 sells for $3.7M

The sported-up Chevrolet C8 Corvette ZR1 will start from U.S. $175,000 when it goes on sale, but the example with the chassis number 1 has just been sold at an auction for a tidy amount of $3,700,000.

The winning bidder, Rick Hendrick, got a car in Gloss Black with blue stripes, naked carbon accents and blue wheels. The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the national Red Cross.

Hendrick is an entrepreneur and car collector famous for his Corvette collection comprising more than 100 different modifications. He managed to acquire nearly all first production examples of the C8 Corvette, from the standard Stingray spec to the high-end E-Ray hybrid, parting with millions of dollars in the process.

As for the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, it was first announced in July 2024 with dynamic numbers revealed in December. Advertised as the fastest Corvette in history, it packs a V8 rated at 1,064 PS (1,050 hp / 783 kW) and needs 2.3 seconds to reach 96.6 km/h (60 miles per hour) from standstill.
