Desert Drag Race: Ford Ranger vs. Toyota Hilux

The Toyota Hilux is a direct rival to the Ford Ranger, so how does it compare against it in terms of raw acceleration power? Neither of the trucks is at home on the tarmac, of course, so the drag race took place in a South African desert instead.

The Toyota Hilux Legend 2.8 GD-6 RS draws its power from a 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel turbocharged to deliver 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Going up against it is a Ford Ranger Thunder armed with a 2.0-liter four-pot diesel with dual turbos, 213 PS (210 hp / 157 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It uses a ten-speed A/T instead.
