Volvo EX60 Showcases New Digital Ecosystem and SPA3 Platform

The 2027 Volvo EX60 SUV is presented as a demonstration of the manufacturer's software-defined future. This two-row electric vehicle features a new digital ecosystem, centered around the HuginCore system. This system integrates hardware and software developed both in-house and with partners such as Google, Nvidia, and Qualcomm. This setup is intended to enable more substantial over-the-air updates and optimize active-safety features for improved situational awareness and tailored responses for front-seat occupants.

The EX60 is built on Volvo’s new SPA3 platform, which incorporates an 800-volt electrical architecture. This platform is designed to enhance energy efficiency and reduce charging times. Additional benefits are said to include improved packaging and mass reduction, partly achieved by integrating the battery cells into the floor as structural elements. The vehicle also uses aluminum megacasting for its rear subframe, replacing numerous individual structural components.

The EX60 lineup includes a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive P6 model with 369 horsepower and an 80-kWh battery, capable of fast-charging at up to 320 kilowatts. Dual-motor, all-wheel-drive P10 models produce 503 horsepower and feature a 91-kWh battery, with a maximum charging rate of 370 kilowatts. A 670-hp P12 model with a 112-kWh battery is expected, and a Cross Country variant is planned for 2028.

Both P6 and P10 models are stated to regain approximately 160 miles of range in 10 minutes, with a 10 to 80 percent charge taking 18 minutes. EPA range estimates for the P6 are 295 or 307 miles, while the P10 is rated at 312 or 330 miles, depending on wheel size.
