LE NOVITÀ
The next-generation Volvo XC70 is SUV-shaped, packs as many as four powertrain units and can sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.28 seconds, CarNewsChina reports.
The vehicle runs on a new platform designed specifically for hybrids and should become available for preordering in China in late August, according to the publication.
The powertrain comprises a 1.5-liter engine with 163 PS (161 hp / 120 kW), an 82-PS (81-hp / 60-kW) starter-generator driving the front wheels and regenerating power when not in use, a 145-PS (143-hp / 107-kW) motor built into a purpose-designed three-speed transmission, and a 212-PS (209 hp / 156 kW) motor mounted at the rear axle.
Even with the battery zeroed out, the car will only consume 5.85 liters of gas per 100 kilometers, Volvo claims. That’s 40 miles per U.S. gallon. Its all-electric range is estimated at 200 km (124 miles), and the total hybrid range comes close to 1,200 km (745 miles).
In keeping with its Scandinavian Aesthetic design language, Volvo gave the infotainment system a fairly understated, clean and laconic UI. We expect the rest of the interior to be designed in the same fashion. A completely new and “groundbreaking” ADAS package is also in the works, but the details will have to wait until the premiere.
