LE NOVITÀ
Xpeng has launched its large all-electric P7 liftback in China. Although the pricing was never revealed, the model has nonetheless managed to collect 10,000 reservations within 6 minutes 37 seconds from launch.
The P7 is a full-size liftback EV that’s 5,017 mm long, 1,970 mm wide and 1,427 mm tall with 3,008 mm between the axles. It offers up to 1,929 liters of trunk space with fully folded seats and also has a 56-liter frunk. Front louvers and a pop-up rear spoiler with 10-way adjustments ensure a low-drag profile at all accelerations.
A peek inside reveals an 87-inch heads-up display, a rather minimalistic 8.8-inch digital dash and a 15.6-inch head unit. The latter can swivel up to 15 degrees left and right and tilt up to 10 degrees up and down. Capacitive buttons on the doors can be programmed with custom functions. The voice assistant has it especially nice with 23 speakers and 8 microphones to work off of.
The front seats come wrapped in Nappa leather and feature 16-way power adjustments alongside ventilation and massage standard features. The driver’s seat can additionally provide what Xpeng calls “active lateral support”. It auto-adjusts the positions of the armrests depending on things like acceleration and turn angle.
The whole system runs on a trio of Xpeng Turing AI chips and Snapdragon 8295P multimedia hardware. 800-volt EV internals allow owners to replenish 512 km (318 miles) of range within just 10 minutes of charging.
In its most basic version, the P7 has a single 367-PS (362 hp / 270 kW) electric motor. All other versions get two motors and 595 PS (587 hp / 438 kW) driving all four wheels. The battery can be either 74.9 or 92.2 kilowatt-hours large. Once full, the EV can cover 702, 750 or 820 km until charging becomes necessary, depending on the spec. That’s 436, 466 and 509 miles, accordingly.
Showroom sales start later this month, the company said.
