BMW has unveiled details regarding the M350 xDrive, the new range-topping combustion-powered variant of the 3-Series, which will succeed the M340i xDrive. This model introduces a "Drift Moment" feature, enabling the vehicle to direct engine power exclusively to the rear wheels. The M350 xDrive, along with other four- and six-cylinder internal combustion engine models in the upcoming 3-Series lineup, will integrate 48V mild-hybrid technology.
The M350 xDrive is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine, augmented by 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance. This powertrain delivers a combined output of 437 hp (326 kW) and 428 lb-ft (580 Nm) of torque, representing an increase of 51 hp and 30 lb-ft over its predecessor. Power is transmitted through an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission to an xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
Preliminary performance figures indicate a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of 4.1 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). The "Drift Moment" functionality, activated via the central display, disengages the front axle and deactivates DSC, effectively transforming the all-wheel-drive M350 into a rear-wheel-drive configuration for controlled oversteer maneuvers. This feature is slated for release in 2027, including an over-the-air Remote Software Upgrade for existing M350 owners.
BMW is currently conducting final dynamic testing of the M350 xDrive at its Miramas proving ground in southern France. The next-generation 3-Series, encompassing both internal combustion and electric i3 variants, will adopt the brand's Neue Klasse design language across all powertrains.
