New Dodge Challenger pretends to be an old Plymouth

This 2022 Dodge Challenger wearing the bodywork of a Plymouth Barracuda from the early 1970s is scheduled to cross the auction block in mid-May this year. With less than 90 km (56 miles) under its belt, it’s practically new.

The car has essentially zero original panels remaining, and the new ones are all made of carbon fiber. Stock headlights dilute the impression somewhat, but the builder at least took care to find aftermarket LED taillights resembling those of the Baracuda. A custom paint job and multi-piece forged wheels with body-matching brake calipers round off the exterior modifications.

The cabin stays stock except for the upholstery, which follows the same black-and-pink color scheme as the exterior. A peek under the hood reveals a stock 6.2-liter SRT Hellcat V8 rated at 717 PS (707 hp / 527 kW).

The seller claims the build took around 3,000 hours to complete and was number 4 in a planned batch of 10. Carscoops adds that the same car apparently cropped up on sale in January this year, but didn’t reach reserve with a top bid of $275,000.
