Tokyo Drift-inspired Mazda RX-7 crops up on sale

The real fans of the third installment of the Fast & Furious saga know that the filming crew commissioned a bespoke body kit from VeilSide for it. A car that looks just like the RX-7 from the movie will be up for bidding at Mecum in the United States in a week.

The tuning company produced nine cars for the set, but the orange-and-black example depicted here was made some time after The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift hit the big screen. It painstakingly recreated the coupe from the movie with just one notable exception: the left-hand steering wheel, which could actually be considered an advantage for the U.S. buyers.

While they were at it, the tuners rebuilt the 1.3-liter rotary engine by replacing the intake manifold, the turbocharger, the fuel pump, the intercooler and the ECU. It’s unclear how much the car outputs to the rear end, but it has to be more than the U.S. version’s stock 259 PS (255 hp / 190 kW).

The listing goes on to mention a MagnaFlow exhaust system, coilover-based suspension, stainless-steel brake lines and BC Forged three-piece wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber. In turn, the interior takes advantage of a Haltech digital dashboard, a more up-to-date infotainment system and some carbon-fiber trim on the console along with a new shifter. Rounding off the list is a superior audio system.

There are currently no price estimations, and we were unable to find the mileage of this RX-7 mentioned anywhere.
