Mercedes Marco Polo camper gets refreshed for the next model year

Mercedes-Benz has freshened up its Marco Polo RV lineup, adding features and improving user experience while keeping the oily bits under the hood intact.

In its latest implementation, the camper features a new folding top that rises up to 370 millimeters (14.6 inches) at the rear end – 100 mm (3.9 inches) higher than the old version. It also now comes with LED backlight and can be optioned with a sliding hatch or a panoramic window. The company says this new roof design lets owners enjoy “an unobstructed view of the starry night sky.”

The external awning is now detachable, meaning you can stow it away when not in use and make it easier to wash your Marco Polo. Fuel economy should also improve if the awning isn’t something you regularly need.

Inside, improvements were made to storage drawers and folding tables, Mercedes claims. Another highlight comes in the form of a new nine-speaker audio system fine-tuned with the interior geometry of the RV in mind. Owners will especially appreciate to know that keeping your infotainment system on is no longer necessary in order to play music via Bluetooth.

As we said above, the powertrains stay largely unchanged. As before, buyers are choosing from three diesel engines. The entry-level one pushes out 163 PS (161 hp / 120 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque, while the range-topping one is good for 237 PS (234 hp / 174 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.

All three diesels utilize a nine-speed automatic transmission and can be ordered in RWD or AWD flavor. The topmost one only needs 8.8 seconds to take the Marco Polo from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph).
