The recently unveiled Mitsubishi Pajero, positioned as the brand's new flagship SUV, offers insights into potential updates for the Triton midsize pickup truck. Both models share a common ladder-frame architecture, suggesting a future convergence in styling and technological features for the Triton's mid-lifecycle refresh.
The current sixth-generation Triton, introduced in 2023, is anticipated for an update within the next few years, likely post-2028. This refresh would enable the Triton to maintain competitiveness against rivals such as the updated Ford Ranger, the new Toyota Hilux, and an expanding segment of Chinese-manufactured trucks.
Exterior modifications for the facelifted Triton are expected to concentrate on the front fascia, potentially incorporating design elements from the new Pajero, such as T-shaped LED headlights and a revised Dynamic Shield grille. Interior enhancements may include a larger infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and updated upholstery options, aligning the truck with contemporary comfort and safety standards.
Under the hood, the Triton will likely retain its existing ladder-frame chassis and the Super-Select 4WD II system, possibly with improvements like rear disc brakes and a retuned suspension. The new Pajero's updated 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine, featuring a single wide-range variable geometry turbocharger, could be integrated into the facelifted Triton.
