Alpina B3 breaks cover with upgraded engine and mild styling tweaks

When BMW rolled out the facelifted 3-Series, we knew it was only a matter of time until Alpina did the same to its B3 and D3 S sedan and wagon. Both are now available for pre-ordering in Germany with the actual deliveries set to begin in October this year.

Starting with the most important part, the B3 sedan begins at €88,600 before options. The estate-shaped B3 costs €89,900 and upwards from there. The D3 S starts from €77,050, but opting for a longer roof will set you back at least €78,450.

The update lands the B3 with a boosted version of the stock 3.0-liter six-pot turbo. The power rises from 462 PS (456 hp / 340 kW) to 495 PS (488 hp / 364 kW). The torque sees a relatively minor bump from 700 to 730 Nm (from 516 to 538 lb-ft, respectively).

An eight-speed automatic transmission drives the wheels to let the sedan hit 100 km/h (62 mph) within 3.6 seconds from the launch and max out at 305 km/h (189.5 mph). The wagon is just one-tenth of a second behind.

The diesel-chugging D3 S version uses a three-liter, six-cylinder engine that pumps out 355 PS (350 hp / 261 kW) and 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) of torque. The sedan completes its standard sprint in 4.7 seconds, and the estate trails by 0.1 s. The respective top speeds are 273 and 270 km/h (169.6 and 167.8 miles per hour).

Elsewhere, the fresh Alpina 3-Series rocks a different front splitter, sides adorned with the signature pinstripes, and a giant dual display in the cabin, among other premium features.
