BP shows interest in buying out Tesla’s Supercharger network

BP has confirmed that it was looking into buying the charging station network developed by Tesla Inc. worldwide.

Following rather extreme staff cuts at the Supercharger division, rumors cropped up that the company was about to liquidate the entire department responsible for it. British Petroleum p.l.c., which has been developing its own EV charging network called Pulse lately, responded saying it was willing to pay U.S. $100,000,000 to buy out the existing Supercharger infrastructure. Representatives said BP would then proceed to install its own charging points there instead of Tesla-standard ones.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk quickly came forward to debunk these rumors, saying that his car company was about to invest another $500,000,000 into the expansion of the charging network in 2024 alone. He angrily dismissed the implication that the Supercharger brand was about to disappear.
