Meet the Kalmar 7-97 E-Volt, a Porsche 964 restomod on Tesla power

Danish tuning company Kalmar Automotive is already busy producing multiple restomod lineups based on the Porsche 964 chassis, but it has just announced another one – a completely electric one, at that.

It is called the Kalmar 7-97 E-Volt and comes equipped with a single electric motor sourced from a Tesla Model S. It delivers 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) along with 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels and needs less than four seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph). The range is capped at meager 290 km (180 miles) under ideal conditions, but charging from 20 to 80 percent only takes 15 minutes.

Unlike most Porsche restomods of this level of execution, the Kalmar 7-97 E-Volt ships with a stock body by default. The company reinforces it with numerous components made from plant fiber plastic, an innovative material said to be both lightweight and eco-friendly thanks to a low carbon footprint. More of the same material can be found in the cabin.

Speaking of the cabin, it’s also far from what you’d expect to see in a purebred sports car. There is an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay on board, a modern HVAC, and lots of leather trim all around. As a result, the car weighs about the same as the original – not really more, but not really much less, either.

Among other features, Kalmar mentions adaptive suspension, ceramic brakes (optional) and all-new bodywork made from the plant fiber material mentioned above (also optional).

Production plans exist for 12 such cars per year. Prices start from $500,000 not even including the donor vehicle.
