Porsche is reportedly evaluating the introduction of a new mid-engined supercar, potentially leveraging technology from the limited-run Audi Nuvolari, which shares components with the Lamborghini Temerario. This strategic shift aligns with the manufacturer's focus on highly profitable sports cars and a streamlined product portfolio, as outlined by company leadership.
This potential supercar could serve as a halo model, succeeding the 918 Spyder, which concluded production in 2015. The move would also mark a departure from previous considerations for an all-electric hypercar, initially previewed by the Mission X concept. The supervisory board is expected to make a decision regarding this new halo vehicle following the current summer break.
Porsche's restructuring initiatives include a reduction in model variants and increased collaboration with other Volkswagen Group brands to optimize cost efficiencies. This approach is exemplified by the planned replacement for the combustion-powered Macan, which will utilize Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion architecture.
Despite these potential additions, the 911 will remain central to Porsche's future lineup and will not transition to an electric powertrain. Concurrently, the company plans to expand its bespoke Sonderwunsch program, aiming to significantly increase capacity for highly customized vehicles, identifying them as a key driver for future profitability.
