Mitsubishi debuts a new concept SUV for Southeastern Asia

Mitsubishi has attended a recent motor show in the Philippines with a prototype crossover called the DST. No technical specifications were revealed, but the car is slated to reach the market in Southeastern Asia next year.

The DST Concept looks like any other recent Mitsubishi with its signature body outlines, X-embossed sides, trim accents, and radiator grille. It also features video cameras for mirrors, stacked headlights and unique c-pillars, but we doubt that any of these features are there to stay – most will likely be dropped before production. Note also the missing door handles.

The interior houses three rows of seats, a mildly squared-off steering wheel with three spokes, a large bezel-free display and a floating center console with a transmission selector and a round drive mode dial. Despite being FWD by design, the SUV offers a number of dedicated off-road presets.

The local media speculate that the production car based on this concept will share the platform with the smaller Mitsubishi Xforce also represented in the ASEAN market. In this case, it should get a bigger engine to compensate for the dimensions and the number of seats. According to manufacturer, the DST isn’t a replacement for any existing model – it’s an all-new model meant to give customers in Southeastern Asia more options.
