Honda launches a solid-state traction battery plant

Honda has invested $278,000,000 into the construction of an industrial complex in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan that will mass-produce innovative batteries for EVs.

The test production run is scheduled for January. Honda reckons that cutting-edge technologies will enable it to downsize existing EV battery designs by 50% by the early 2030s, while also reducing their material costs by 25% and doubling the effective range.

Looking into the future, the company hopes it will be able to supply other automakers with these next-gen batteries. Doing so will only increase the profitability of the plant, because it was conceptualized with large production volumes in mind.
