Is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe coming back?

Mercedes-Benz ditched the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet body styles five years ago when it updated the W222 saloon lineup to a new W223 generation.

Patent images have now been discovered in an official patent database in Europe depicting a large two-door car based on the latest S-Class (see video). There are three image sets in total, showing a standard car alongside its supposed AMG and Maybach counterparts.

The automaker hasn’t commented the news yet. It’s also a bit odd how these pictures made it into the database. For one thing, they weren’t submitted by Mercedes – instead, it was a company named “Robu Aktiengesellschaft”. For another, they don’t seem to be original – it looks like someone simply redrew the S-Class sedan photos removing the rear doors.

In other words, we are going to need to wait for an official comment.
