Infiniti to retire QX50 & QX55

Nissan will be wrapping up the production of its Infiniti-badged QX50 and QX55 SUVs. Both are based on the same platform and aren’t selling well – at least, that’s the official explanation.

One has to consider another major factor, though. Both SUVs are currently produced in Mexico, which has been in rather tense relations with the U.S. Administration since the election of President Trump. By discontinuing these models, Nissan may simply be minimizing its risks in the region.

At the same time, the company plans to downsize its U.S. presence to cut costs and focus on delivering only the cars that customers want the most. These impending cuts may leave around 2,000 workers looking for new jobs.
