Smart to bring the tiny two-seater back into production

The petite Smart ForTwo hatchback used to be the company’s most popular vehicle before its product strategy changed, but “electrification” and “SUV” became its biggest buzzwords for the past few years. Now that the EV craze is slowing down, Smart wants to bring back the car under a new name: #2.

The teasers only reveal the shadow of the subcompact, but you can still get a fairly good idea of what it is like. Which is to say, it looks very similar to the discontinued ForTwo. In fact, the company puts in the same line as its other two-seaters in a very clear hint as to the market positioning. We suppose it’s safe to say it’s going to be around 2.7 meters (105.5 inches) long.

Knowing Smart, Mercedes-Benz will probably design the appearance of the #2, while Geely will supply the powertrain and tech. It will likely reuse one of the existing platforms, updating it slightly for the new model.

In early 2025, rumors came in that the company was considering adding a sedan to its all-SUV lineup. In contrast to the #2, it was conceptualized as a rather large vehicle and a potential flagship. They said it could be called the #6. Smart has never commented on these alleged insider leaks.
