Ford unleashes its 2025 Pikes Peak Super Mustang

Ford has revealed all major specifications of its insane Ford Performance Super Mustang Mach-E. The EV may be styled in the same vein as the production car (see video), but it packs a completely different powertrain with 1,419 PS (1,400 hp / 1,044 kW).

The car has three electric motors and a rather modest 50-kWh battery pack. It looks like Ford bets big on its regenerative braking system, which can recoup up to 710 kW. Back in 2024, the automaker won the Race to the Clouds using a very similar powertrain in a pickup truck body that weighed 115 kilograms (253 lbs) more. Shedding the weight can make a difference for this year’s race.

On the outside, the extreme Mustang Mach-E wears a highly efficient aerodynamic kit that was supposed to generate 2,778 kg (6,125 lbs) of downforce when it was first announced in early June. Ford has since improved it to produce mountain-crushing 3,130 kg (6,900 lbs) at 240 km/h (150 miles per hour).

Romain Dumas, the winner of the last year’s race, will once again occupy the driver’s seat. It’s his third Pikes Peak hill climb race for Ford and tenth overall, so he chose to go under the starting grid number 310, read as “three-ten”.

The Drive Magazine adds that the company actually has another Mach-E prototype racecar in store, but that one’s too wild for this year’s competition. Allegedly, it has four e-motors and exerts up to 2,250 PS (2,220 hp / 1,655 kW). That’s straight away dangerous on a mountain road.
