Next-gen Mazda MX-5 getting a bigger 2.5-liter engine

Mazda is developing a new MX-5 roadster that will take advantage of a 2.5-liter, naturally aspirated Skyactiv-Z engine.

That sounds like good news for all Miata enthusiasts, because the car has made do with just two liters of displacement so far. However, according to Mazda Chief Technical Officer Ryuichi Umeshita, some fine-tuning will be done to balance its output against emissions and keep it compliant. In other words, we shouldn’t be getting too excited about the power gains.
