Volkswagen shelves Project Trinity

The German automotive giant will not come back to its next-gen electric car plans until at least 2032.

Initially, the company had planned to unveil the first vehicle based on the SSP platform in 2026. However, due to the EV demand slowing down globally, it decided to take its time developing the platform. From this year onward, Volkswagen will shift focus to the increasingly popular hybrids.

VW emphasizes that it doesn’t mean there will be no new EVs – it’s just that cars based on existing platforms and drivetrains will be prioritized over expensive new ones.
