Skoda Elroq bows in Europe with 299 PS, sub-€34k starting price

Skoda has introduced the compact-sized and completely electric Elroq crossover during a dedicated event in Prague. Let’s see what it is all about.

The car is 4,488 mm (175.3 inches) long, 1,884 mm (73.6 in) wide and 1,625 mm (63.5 in). The wheelbase amounts to 2,765 mm (104.5 in), the ground clearance to 186 mm (7.3 in), and wheels are available in sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches.

The chassis is a part of Volkswagen’s MEB platform designed specifically for electric cars. It has McPherson struts at the front end, multi-link suspension at the rear, and disc brakes at the front. The rear axle makes do with basic drum brakes.

In its simplest version, the Elroq comes equipped with a single e-motor rated at 170 PS (168 hp / 125 kW) and a 55-kWh battery pack. It needs nine seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill and doesn’t go any faster than 160 km/h (99 mph). Once fully charged, it covers up to 375 km (233 miles).

The next spec up the list offers a superior 204-PS (201-hp / 150-kW) motor and a larger 63-kWh battery. It delivers more than 400 km (248 miles) of range per charge and runs the standard sprint in 8.5 seconds, Skoda says. Like the entry-level Elroq mentioned above, this one is rear-wheel drive.

There are two top specs to choose between. One packs a single motor with 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW), while the other one uses two motors mounted one per axle to send 299 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) to the asphalt. Both utilize the same 82-kWh battery pack and can cover 560 km (348 miles) per charge. The top speed is also improved (up to 180 km/h, or 112 mph), and the RWD version reaches 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.

The production is already running in Czechia, and Skoda is accepting preorders. Prices in Germany start from €33,900.
