Most movie cars are treated as props and seldom get practical upgrades, but this 1967 Pontiac GTO can shoot fireworks that look like missiles from its headlights, and is otherwise packed with the early 2000s-era goofiness.
Built for the action movie “xXx” starring Vin Diesel, it features a radar-like light tower on the hood, extra DRLs in the grille and exhaust pipes running down both sides. The rocket launchers are mounted right above the headlights, and the listing doesn’t specify whether they are still functional.
And then there is the interior, or to be more specific, the dash. It looks like something straight out of a retro spaceship concept with as many as 16 gauges, a dozen of displays and scores of buttons and switches all around. It frankly looks hilarious by the standards of our day and age, but Hollywood productions at the turn of the millennium didn’t shun from such overdone aesthetics.
Power for the glorious GTO is provided by a 6.55-liter V8 linked to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission. It makes a solid 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and is good to go if you’re in the mood for dailying it.
Of course, it’s a collector’s item first and foremost. Realizing it, Motor Car Classics is asking for a cool $79,900.
