Rare Blue Phoenix Speedster by Gunther Werks heads to auction

Mecum Auctions will try to find a buyer for this highly customized and tuned Porsche 911 (993) at the Monterey Car Week this August. Known as the Gunther Werks Speedster, it packs plenty of power in a lightweight carbon package and has only 174 kilometers (108 miles) on the odometer.

Only 25 such cars were made within the framework of the tuner’s Blue Phoenix project. Every car ended up with a custom flat-six engine by Rothsport Racing massaged to extract 436 PS (430 hp / 321 kW) and 447 Nm (330 lb-ft) of torque from its 4.0 liters of displacement. An improved six-speed manual transmission was tasked with delivering the torque to the rear end via an LSD.

These numbers may pale in comparison to some of the Gunther Werks’ more recent works, but it’s worth noting that the car itself tips the scales at just 1,180 kilos (2,600 lbs). Considering that it had to get numerous chassis reinforcements after losing its roof, it does look like quite an impressive result.

Elsewhere, the listing mentions Brembo performance brakes, JRZ coilovers and a front axle lift for driving over obstacles. The interior is rather lavish and makes extensive use of natural leather, aluminum and carbon fiber. Extra luggage space can be found just behind the headrests.

There is no estimated price yet.
