Hyundai & Zeiss design a true holographic HUD

Hyundai Mobis and the optical system experts at Carl Zeiss AG have designed an innovative holographic projector capable of displaying lifelike 3D images on windshields.

The companies reckon that this technology can eliminate the need for both the digital dashboard and the infotainment display. It comprises two main parts: a special film glued onto the windshield and a specially calibrated image projector.

If the development goes well, the holographic HUD technology may trickle down to the mass market in three years’ time.
