Alpine А390 bows in Europe

Renault Group brand Alpine has unveiled its second fully electric car and first SUV – the A390.

It is 4,615 mm (180.3 inches) long, 1,885 mm (73.6 inches) wide and 1,532 mm (59.9 inches) tall with 2,708 mm (105.8 inches) of interaxle space. The underlying architecture, AmpR Medium, is the same as the one used in the Renault Megane E-Tech and the Nissan Ariya. Alpine points out using special shock absorbers for a sportier drive.

One e-motor at the front axle and two more in the back produce 401 PS (396 hp / 295 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque in the base spec called GT. A superior spec named GTS delivers a combined 469 PS (463 hp / 345 kW) along with 808 Nm (596 lb-ft).

The GT needs 4.8 seconds to go from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) and doesn’t exceed 200 km/h (124 mph), while the GTS has a 3.9-second sprint and a 220 km/h (136 mph) top speed.

Both versions come bundled with an 89-kWh battery pack. Depending on the conditions, it can supply up to 555 km (345 miles) of range per charge. Drivers can switch between two sound profiles called Daily and Sport and use a Boost function to get some extra power when overtaking. It lasts 10 seconds and can be used again in 30 seconds.

The road clearance amounts to 152 mm, or 6 inches. Wheels come in 20-inch and 21-inch sizes.

The interior looks more or less stock Renault with its dual displays on the dashboard, measuring 12 and 12.3 inches of diagonal size. The A390 seats five people and offers a 532-liter (18.8-cubic-foot) trunk. Alpine promises premium trimming materials including Nappa leather and an 850W audio system from Devialet.

Ordering in Europe will become available in the final quarter of the year. Rumors claim the minimum price will lie above €71,000.
