2022 Chevy Silverado debuts with ZR2 top spec

Chevrolet has given its Silverado pickup a mid-life refresh and complemented the lineup with a particularly rugged ZR2 version, which is now officially the new flagship.

The ZR2 features lifted suspension with powerful shock absorbers and gets its forward momentum from a 6.2-liter V8 rated at 425 PS (419 hp / 313 kW) and 624 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is ten-speed automatic.

You can tell the ZR2 from the standard Silverado by its redesigned bumpers, black hood and radiator grille, skid plate, giant mud tires, and 18-inch wheels. Dual-tone leather trim dominates the interior.

All 2022 Silverado models sport a redesigned front fascia and grille with headlights sitting lower than usual. LT and higher specs include a 12.3-inch digital dashboard and a 13.4-inch infotainment system. Trucks with bucket seats now come with electronic gear controls on the center console.

All versions benefit from an updated range of Chevy Safety Assist systems, which includes frontal collision warning, lane control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, distance keeping, and automatic high beam.

Buyers can choose between a 2.7-liter four-cylinder turbo, a 5.3-liter and a 6.2-liter V8, and a 3.0-liter diesel six-pot. The four-cylinder now churns out 314 PS (310 hp / 231 kW) and 569 Nm (420 lb-ft) of torque, while the rest of the lineup remains unchanged.

Sales will begin next spring.
