Ford patents an EV “gearbox”

The Blue Oval seems to believe that electric cars can be more engaging to drive with a simulated ICE transmission.

The patent images depict what looks like a normal gear lever, but the company says it is an electronic stick that supports multiple modes. Drivers will be able to use it as a traditional manual lever or as a sequential selector for a sportier feel.

It doesn’t look like the novelty is supposed to do anything other than spicing up electric driving – its design notably lacks any traditional transmission parts.
